The Visual Blog: March 2016

Every quarter, Popdot Media will be showcasing a range of projects that we have worked on. These will range from web design and re-branding projects to magazine and print design. Please enjoy browsing through our March selection below.

Concrete Institute of Australia

CLIENT: Concrete Institute of Australia

PROJECT TYPE: editorial design
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: This is the second issue of Concrete in Australia — a quarterly publication consisting of news, events, features and technical papers throughout the concrete industry — that Popdot Publishing has designed and published. It has become an established addition in Popdot Publishing and it was great to work on a variety of different features and articles that lent themselves differently to the style of design and layout. We maintained all of the changes that we integrated into the first edition in December whilst modifying and developing other creative elements to freshen up the publication that little bit more. We feel the harmonious balance between text and imagery really works well to bring the articles to life and ensure the publication is visually eye-catching to the reader.

Marais Louise

CLIENT: Marais Louise
URL: www.maraislouiseparisapartment.com
PROJECT TYPE: Website design
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: This project required us to design a website for Marais Louise — a beautiful self-catered apartment in the heart of Paris. Using Squarespace as our web tool, the site consists of 7 main tabs along the navigation panel — some of which contain dropdown options — all of which help to create a user-friendly, easily navigational site for the user. We felt it important to keep the design simple and clean to allow the imagery to really stand out and we carefully chose the fonts and colours to compliment the elegance of the apartment. Interactive maps have been included to aid the user's understanding of location and what local amenities are available to them and a fully-functional booking form has also been integrated to ensure the user experience is as successful as possible.

CLIENT: Pinn Deavin
URL: www.pinndeavin.com.au
PROJECT TYPE: Website Design
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: Pinn Deavin came to us asking for their website to be given a new lease of life and a more impressive online presence. Using an existing Wordpress template that they had started with, it was important to ensure their brand identity was consistent across the entire site. This was achieved by using the company colours and fonts that effectively complimented and enhanced the overall brand. To add extra interest to the site, we created a number of illustrations that we added to each of the main pages. Not only did these visual illustrations help to reinforce the written content, but they successfully broke up the text and helped to achieve more dynamic and appealing layouts. An interesting and exciting project to work on, it was great to acknowledge how small changes to a website can make a big difference to the look and feel of a brand.
