The Visual Blog: December 2016

Every quarter, Popdot Media will be showcasing a range of projects that we have worked on. These will range from web design and re-branding projects to magazine and print design. Please enjoy browsing through our December selection below.

Allianz

CLIENT: Allianz

PROJECT TYPE: Animation
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: At Popdot, we always love to try our hand at developing design skills that we don't always have the opportunity to expand upon. Allianz came to us with a brief to create a 12 second Christmas 'Seasons Greetings' animation to send out to all of their Australia and New Zealand customers. Using Adobe Illustrator to create all of the elements, we then used Adobe Edge Animate to bring the animation to life. Once we had built up the layers to create the Christmas scene, we then carefully mastered the different timeframes of each element to achieve well-balanced animations with smooth transitions between each scene. With most of our projects tending to be print or web based, this project was particularly exciting to work on and we look forward to creating many more animations over the coming year!

Kine Graffiti

CLIENT: Kine Grafitti

PROJECT TYPE: Website redesign
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: Kine Graffiti came to us with a brief to improve their website. With an original designer that went awol — leaving a half-completed site — they wanted the site to have a really strong brand presence on every page. Through using their brand colours, strong typography and a clean, minimal layout, we achieved a modern and striking site that attracts both new and existing clients. It was also a great opportunity to integrate some illustrations too — best used to represent all of the different services offered. These nicely compliment the use of photography across the site to bring variety and individual character on each page. The red in the logo was one element that the company wanted to maintain across the site. With it being quite a vibrant shade of red, we decided to use it as an accent colour only — using it for buttons, in the nav bar and for certain headings only.

CLIENT: Allianz

PROJECT TYPE: Promotional design work
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: A company of Allianz, Club Marine is Australia's largest provider of pleasure craft insurance. The brief was to create a toolkit of artwork for joint promotion of Club Marine TV and the Club Marine App. Consistency across all deliverables was therefore important to ensure each product looked the same and complimented one another nicely as a set. Deliverables included full page adverts, flysheet, DL flyer and web banners. We were provided with some great imagery which really lent itself nicely to promoting the products in the very best light. With a lot of experience in print design it was a great project to work on. Focusing on clean and professional layouts and using the colours and fonts that complied with brand guidelines helped to achieve an impressive final set of deliverables.

Welcome Walking Tours

CLIENT: Welcome Walking Tours

PROJECT TYPE: Promotional flyer and logo design
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: Welcome Walking Tours provides free walking tours around Sydney, spoken in both English and Mandarin at request. Our first project was to create the company logo — an iconic and simple design that clearly represented Sydney and the concept of a journey leading you from A–B. The simple, bold Opera House icon with the water of the harbour beneath it is surrounded by a dotted and solid curved line. These visually represent a tourist walking through the city alone (dotted line) to then being led around the city on one of the tours and being shown everything they need to see (solid line). Our client was very happy with the final design and believed the logo perfectly reflected what the company specialised in. The need for a striking and informative flyer was paramount when competing with 2 other major tour companies that offer very similar services. Using the same colour and font used for the logo to maintain a strong brand identity, the flyer was put together using a perfect balance of informative written content and exciting imagery to appeal to passers-by. When compared to existing flyers from competitors, our client was very pleased with the final product — thought to be far more professional and appealing.
