CLIENT: Allianz  |  Auto Assure
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: this was one of the highlights of the year for Popdot and a really exciting project to work on. Allianz came to us with a large rebranding project for one of their partner companies, Auto Assure — a company specialising in Auto Warranty across Australia. Not only was a new logo required, but the brief was inclusive of Design, Copy & Collateral elements and a range of design templates for external Dealership use. This brief was awesome because it really enabled our creative juices to flow. We had a couple of months to complete the project so there was plenty of time to get our teeth into it and create a striking new visual brand. We firstly began the process by completing competitor analysis and putting together a thorough research and development document. This included the company's existing marketing collateral, it's competitors (both local & international), the background of the company, it's forward-thinking vision and a large selection of logo designs taken from the automobile industry and for style references and inspiration. Once we had this under our belt, we designed up three initial logo designs in black & white — one that was based on the existing logo and two that were completely new concepts. This was then followed by a couple of meetings with the team to discuss the new designs — a particularly beneficial process when discussing the preferred font(s) & colours and honing the final artwork. In the final logo, we played with the geometry created when inverting and merging the letter A to create a nut in the negative space. The logo thus incorporates the two ‘As’ in Auto Assure as well as a symbol of protection and maintenance. The company loved the logo and this geometric shape became an interesting and unique feature that we used to create larger scale patterns to include in all design collateral. Every stage of this project was exciting and was a pleasure to work on. It was great having the opportunity to design and develop, from scratch, a set of marketing materials and having full control over the execution of the final artwork. Photography research online, logo development & icon creation in Adobe Illustrator, design & layouts in Adobe InDesign  — the project had it all and we loved it! Allianz were really pleased with the final products and we look forward to working with them on similar projects in 2018!

CLIENT: Fishburners
PROJECT TYPE: interior wallpapers, signage & wayfinding
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: we have loved being members at Fishburners — the community is fantastic and it's great working alongside so many like-minded individuals who are developing some pretty cool ideas. When Fishburners announced they were moving to a new location in Sydney CBD and asked us if we'd be interested in helping with some of the designs, we couldn't resist! Working with Sydney based Interior Design company TomMarkHenry, we were asked to design a series of wallpapers, wayfinding, large scale decals and door signage for the new space. This was a brilliant project to work on because it offered the opportunity to be creative and design much larger scales of work than we'd previously worked on. Liaising with the teams at Fishburners and TomMarkHenry was inspiring and everyone was so passionate and excited about creating a striking new space. The team were adamant about wanting the space to be a jump up from the old space in Ultimo, however one that still oozed Fishburners. In addition, they wanted both existing and new members to be able to 'feel at home' in the Fishburners community by not creating a space that was too corporate or unfamiliar. This was achieved by refreshing the Fishburners brand without reinventing the wheel — using new bursts of colours that complimented the primary blue and incorporating modern, confident new typefaces across all artwork to achieve a vibrant and striking new look. Elements from the Fishburners logo were incorporated into the designs wherever possible and we made sure that all artwork complimented one another well to ensure we achieved a visually striking set of designs.

*Images are mockups only. New professional photos of the space coming soon!

ID8 Design

CLIENT: ID8 Design
PROJECT TYPE: website design
DESIGNED BY: Stephanie Gunn
WHY WE THINK IT'S COOL: having designed the branding for ID8 Design, the client came back to us wanting his website revamped. He had a very basic online presence after setting up a site on Squarespace but needed the site to be fully developed before marketing his brand any further. To achieve a slick and professional new site, we incorporated the qualities of the new brand identity — colours, fonts and style — across all pages of the site. Our client wanted a simple design that would help to ensure all images from his portfolio would really 'pop' and enable him to showcase his work. We achieved this by adding large banner images on every page and gallery showreels, combined with minimal amounts of text so that the visuals could really be appreciated. By using a font that complimented the primary font, and both the primary and secondary brand colours (dark blue & grey), it helped to enhance the ID8 brand that resonates well between the branding and the website. With a striking new brand identity, our client was very pleased with the final results and was looking forward to marketing his business as we entered 2018.
